About Plata Cocina Mexicana

Let me introduce you to Plata Cocina Mexicana, a Mexican restaurant tucked into Agoura Hills that feels like a local secret you want to share the moment you walk in. Located at 28914 Roadside Dr #110, Agoura Hills, CA 91301, United States, this spot blends a relaxed neighborhood vibe with polished touches that make it work for casual lunches, date nights, or meeting friends after work. The menu leans into comforting Mexican flavors while still feeling fresh, so whether you are craving a quick bite or planning to linger over small plates, there is always something that fits the mood. I like how the space flows easily from indoor seating to outdoor seating, which makes sunny afternoons and warm evenings especially inviting. Service options are flexible too, with dine-in when you want the full experience, takeaway for busy days, kerbside pickup for convenience, and delivery when staying in just feels right. What really stands out is how the offerings cover all the bases without trying too hard. Cocktails and beer are thoughtfully chosen, spirits and wine are easy to pair with the food, and happy-hour drinks and happy-hour food make it a natural gathering spot. If alcohol is not your thing, coffee is available, which feels surprisingly perfect with comfort food that hits familiar, satisfying notes. Vegetarian options are clearly part of the picture, so mixed groups never feel limited, and small plates make sharing effortless. The overall energy is upbeat but unpretentious, and the staff keeps things moving smoothly while still feeling approachable. As someone introducing this place, I usually describe it as the kind of Mexican restaurant that fits into real life, easygoing, flavorful, and dependable, yet still interesting enough to keep you coming back to explore more of the menu. The location in Agoura Hills makes it easy to drop by, whether you are nearby or passing through the area.

The location is very pretty. Little water fountain outside the doors. 10/10 ambiance. I was so surprised at how affordable the food was for the area. Most dishes were around 20-30. Not bad per person. Sides were around 12-20. Highly recommend the Tablita. Piece of carne asada on top of a nopal with cheese on it. Delicious and filling. We also tried the cordero. Pretty close in flavor to birria but definitely preferred the Tablita.

Unique Experience. I felt like I was on vacation. The food was not your typical Mexican food (which I like also). We had the lamb shank and a three plate of tacos. Both were great! I came for the chips which didn't disappoint - warm to the table with great salsa. The service was really good also. The entire mall was very busy and parking was a real problem. We will be back. FUN.

Not a great place for a quiet dinner but a great place for a fantastic meal. The restaurant is busy and so is the bar. The owners do a great job of training their staff to be kind, courteous and knowledgeable. It’s clean and well run. Parking can be difficult but worth the visit.

My favorite mexican restaurant. Their make your own bowl is my favorite, and I'm addicted to their chips and guacamole. They have a great selection of sauces. Their tacos are also a must!

I’ve been to plata a couple times before and it’s always been really good! We all started with margaritas- I got one with muddled strawberries and mint. The flavor was very light and refreshing. I also got the short rib enchiladas that came with a red sauce and a side of cheesey cauliflower. The red sauce was actually a little spicier than anticipated but still really good. The green rice was a nice pairing with it. My aunt got the chicken enchiladas with green sauce which is always a classic. My brother got the burrito which was delicious and very big- he only ate half and took the rest home. I don’t know what it was called on the menu but my dad got some sort of steak which was smothered in cheese and other toppings served with rice and beans- very good!! Lastly my brothers fiance got the ceviche and chile relleno. She ate all the ceviche so I’m assuming it was delicious and is served with a tostada tortilla on the bottom. The chili relleno was good too. Very good portion sizes ! The service was good as well and the chips and salsa are delicious we couldn’t get enough!

The food was great, vibe was amazing. The staff were nice, but the food took for ever, be ready to wait about 45 minutes for your food to arrive. Might not come back here just for this reason and this only if we are planning on dinner. Having that said, if you are craving drinks, definitely your spot is here.

Plata Cocina Mexicana is a true treasure! From the moment you step in, the vibrant ambiance and beautifully designed space set the tone for a great dining experience. The food is absolutely delicious – their mole chicken and enchiladas are must-tries, and the guacamole is so fresh and flavorful. The margaritas are perfectly balanced and pair wonderfully with the variety of dishes. The service was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Whether you’re there for a casual lunch or a celebratory dinner, Plata Cocina Mexicana does not disappoint. Highly recommend if you’re in the Agoura Hills or Thousand Oaks area and craving authentic Mexican cuisine with a modern twist!
